CHATEAU RAUZAN SEGLA SEGLA 2ND MARGAUX 2016

Wine Critic Reviews

Falstaff (90): Dark ruby garnet, purple reflections, subtle edge brightening. Red forest berry confit, some vanilla, delicate herbal savouriness, cherries and fresh orange zest. Medium body, lean, red berry fruit, subtle tannin, lemony finish.

Vinum Wine Magazine (16): Of amiable, balanced nature, harmonious, fresh, rounded, fruity-floral.

Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider (89): Floral scents with sweet, dark berries in a forward, open, medium-bodied style that is both easy to like and understand. Gentle elegance that will be ready to drink as soon at it hits the stores. Segla is not sold En Primeur but this is one of the top values from all of Margaux.

Bacchus Magazine (91): This is the Second Wine of Château Rauzan-Ségla, a renowned house founded in 1661, then bought by Chanel in 1994. The Ségla cuvée comes from the young vines of the estate (less than 10 years), but otherwise the wine is made with the same care as for Château Rauzan-Ségla. The vinification processes and aging conditions are identical. The wine offers a nose that is both elegant and of great purity, revealing aromas of cherries, currants, blackcurrants, raspberries, and blueberries, intertwined with empyreumatic notes (grilled, mocha, and roasting) that confirm its elegance. Well-structured and balanced, the wine reveals on the palate polished tannins and a velvety fruity substance that very clearly restores the aromas perceived on the nose. Superb length for this racy wine that hints at the quality of the Grand Vin de Château Rauzan-Ségla. Aerate for an hour in a decanter and serve at 17 °C. Pure happiness in the company of braised beef, rack of lamb with port sauce, pork tenderloin with pepper sauce, or grilled lamb chops.
