Tua Rita Giusto di Notri 2022
Tua Rita Giusto di Notri 2022
Giusto di Notri is a Bordeaux-inspired blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, selectively harvested in September. After a gentle pressing, the juice and skins macerate for a lengthy period of 25-30 days to add concentration and depth to the final wine. The wine is then aged for 18-20 months in French oak barrels and refined six months in bottle before release.
The word "Giusto" refers to the name of the Patron Saint of Suvereto (the hilltop Tuscan town where Tua Rita is located) and "Notri" is the name of the winery's exact location.

The 2022 Giusto di Notri is a total extrovert. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, blood orange, cedar and pipe tobacco all race across the palate. The 2022 can be enjoyed now, but it will be better in a few years' time once some of the baby fat melts away. - By Antonio Galloni on February 2025 Proprietor Stefano Frascolla and his son, Giovanni, presented a stellar set of wines at Tua Rita. I suppose it is only natural that readers will want to check out the top selections in the range. Even so, it would be a shame to skip over the entry-level offerings, all of which are superb and terrific values. These wines, to me, are the truest sign of an estate’s seriousness. I have a slight preference for the 2022s over the 2023s, as the 2022s have more textural richness and better balance. Conditions were warm, but not extreme by standards in this stretch of the Tuscan Coast. Late-season rains led Tua Rita to harvest some parcels early, while later-ripening varieties benefited from rain and extended maturation that resulted in some parcels being picked into October. The 2023s, on the other hand, strike me as a bit light, most likely because of a combination of disease pressure in spring, rain throughout the season and a relatively large crop that required green harvesting.

This is a blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller parts Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The Tua Rita 2022 Giusto di Notri reveals an especially creamy and rounded texture that adds to a lovely and long-lasting mouthfeel. There is nothing heavy about the wine, and indeed, this vintage actually feels more streamlined and even a tad shorter compared to other hot-vintage releases of the past. The wine's appearance is inky dark, and the bouquet shows layers of dark fruit, blackberry, spice and sweet earth. Published: Feb 20, 2025 Reviewed by: Monica Larner
