The Vineyard & Wine Designation: This wine bridges the gap between regional estate wines (Gutswein) and Grand Cru single-vineyards. It is produced specifically from younger vines grown in the famous Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard in the Mosel. Because the vines are young, the grapes are deliberately declassified from Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) status down to a village-level Ortswein.

Terroir:
The grapes grow on incredibly steep, 50–80% slopes composed of ancient Devonian gray and blue slate soils. This specific slate composition retains heat and infuses the wine with a profound, distinctive salty mineral character.

Winemaking: Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a wild yeast cold fermentation inside traditional 1,000-liter oak barrels (Fuder). The wine is left to rest on its lees for 7 months, which softens the natural high acidity of Mosel Riesling and introduces a fuller, rounder texture.

Taste Profile: It delivers intense notes of Granny Smith apple, apricot, white peach, pineapple, and subtle florals. The mouthfeel is surprisingly layered and structural, concluding with a crisp, bone-dry, and highly mineral finish.

ABV: 12-12.5%

Food Pairings
Thanks to its generous fruit profile and cutting dry minerality, this wine is highly versatile. It pairs brilliantly with:

  • Rich Seafood: A perfect substitute for heavy oaked Chardonnays when pairing with crab, lobster, or buttery fish.

  • White Meats & Poultry: Complements roast chicken, veal, turkey, or pork dishes.

  • Game Meats: Sturdy enough to stand up alongside wild boar or venison stews.
