The 2022 Riesling Kiedricher Gräfenberg Grosses Gewächs has a notion of tangerine alongside yellow plum, followed by yellow plum skin and citrus peel. The palate is juicy, almost bouncy, with Reine Claude's vividness, pervaded by zesty, ripe lemon resting on a gentle layer of yeast. It's concentrated, almost allowing glimpses of more distant, tropical fruit, yet all within that frame of citric freshness. It shows tautness, linearity, direction and energy with Weil’s drive, yet it is always cool and dynamic. We only see a fraction of this power at this point, but it is undoubtedly there. Subtle citrus perfume denotes elegance, but the muscular elegance gets you. Wow. It was bottled in early August 2023 for release in September 2024. (Bone-dry) - Anne Krebiehl MW, Aug 2023

Still so young that the Gräfenberg seems almost unfathomable, as always. The loess-loam content of the soil is advantageous in a dry vintage such as 2022 due to its water retention capacity. Despite the tightness, one can still sense the power in the wine. The acidity is still strict and lashed together, but the high concentration wraps it up. The citrus, grapefruit notes and herbs need plenty of air and time to develop. In its youthful and rebellious 'Sturm und Drang' phase, the quality can nevertheless be discerned from the high concentration. - Caro Maurer MW, Aug 2023

A magnificent, full-bodied dry Riesling from the finest vineyard site of the Rheingau’s most highly acclaimed wine estate.

The outstanding quality of the Kiedrich Gräfenberg (“Hill of the Counts”) vineyard was first documented in the late 12th century. It is a steep, southwest-facing slope in a sheltered side valley of the Rheingau, with deep to medium-deep stony soil made up of phyllite interspersed with water-retaining layers of loess and loam. The dry Grosses Gewächs (GG) is a perfect reflection of this mineral-rich terroir, displaying a provocative balance of fruit, spice and flintiness

The Peak of the Pyramid: The VDP.GROSSE LAGE designation applies to their finest hillside vineyard, the Kiedrich Gräfenberg. Riesling grapes have grown here for centuries, and the wines offer a particularly expressive sense of the terroir as well as exceptional aging potential. In addition to the dry Riesling – labeled as a VDP GROSSES GEWÄCHS – we also produce naturally sweet prädikat wines, a Rheingau classic, from the Kiedrich Gräfenberg.

Today, Weingut Robert Weil, founded 1875, is run by Wilhelm Weil, the fourth generation of the family. The estate’s 90 ha (222 acres) of vineyards, cultivated exclusively certified organic and sustainable, are planted 100 % with Riesling. The concentration on Riesling in the hillside vineyards of Kiedrich, a strict sustainable and yield-reducing work in the vineyards, selective hand harvest and extremely gentle vinification in stainless steel tanks or traditional wooden barrels (“Doppelstück”) guarantee the production of individual and great wines. Thanks to this consistent quality management, each predicate from Estate Level (“Gutswein”) to Gräfenberg (GROSSES GEWÄCHS “GG”) to Trockenbeerenauslese has been harvested continuously in a globally unique series of individual vintages since 1989 at Weingut Robert Weil. Today, many observers of the international wine scene view Weingut Robert Weil with its “Château character” as a global flagship and symbol of German Riesling culture.
