The 2020 Taurasi Vigna Grande Cerzito is youthfully coy, opening with a dusty bouquet of dried flowers, incense, black tea and camphor. It is soothingly round and graceful in style, with crisp wild berry fruit and tactile mineral tones elevated by a core of vibrant acidity. Sweet tannins frame the finish remarkably well, while nuances of violet pastille and confectionery spice resonate over a tart blackberry tinge. Much like the Vigna Quintodecimo, the Grande Cerzito leans into the vividly ripe nature of the vintage yet maintains wonderful harmony. - By Eric Guido on September 2025
The new-release reds from Quintodecimo hail from two very warm vintages (2020 and 2022), but they’re all attractive wines. The two 2020 Taurasis possess forward, open-knit personalities married to depths of fruit and sweet tannins. I don’t expect them to be as long-lived as the best years, but they will overdeliver through the next decade or more. The 2022 Aglianico Terra d'Eclano, is a pure pleasure to taste, with the variety’s inherent tannic clout providing plenty of balance. Though the 2024 whites are currently quite backward, they are beautifully balanced; these wines typically age quite well, and I don’t expect the 2024s to be any different.
The Taurasi Vigna Grande Cerzito is a one-hectare cru from Aglianico, planted in 2004 on the southern side of the Quindecimo estate. The soil, originating from fallen ash and pumice, is volcanic in nature, non-calcareous, well-drained, deep and with a coarse texture, conditions which favor a high availability of oxygen for the roots. the vineyard, at 440 meters above sea level with a slope of 15%, has a planting density of 5000 vines per hectare and is cultivated using counter-espalier methods with spurred cordon pruning. Vigna Grande Cerzito involves for its power and elegance, with its refined aromas of cherry, plum and chocolate and its fleshy and delicate sip. Very long-lived, it becomes even more refined and elegant as the years pass, completing itself with very fresh notes of mint, eucalyptus and incense.
