I am especially excited to taste this new submission from Paitin because I have a love affair with this fun, under-the-radar Piedmont grape variety. The 2021 Langhe Freisa opens to a medium-dark appearance and very rich primary flavors centered on black cherry and redcurrant. This expression is rather mild in character (some can be very punchy) with a good amount of substance and fiber. These qualities make this an easy-drinking red, perfect for a trattoria dinner. It finishes on a thin but softly polished note.
Winery: “La vigna d’Elisa”, was the appellation used by our family to name the grapes conducted by Elisa Elia, coming from the only vineyard in Roero we possess in Varinere of Priocca. Vinified by Secondo, his son, only after she passed away in 1973. The vineyard were so called di “Elisa” and as such the wine produced from these grapes still carry the name of this great women that managed the winery during the dark ages of the Second World War.
Grape: 100% Arneis from Roero
