La Maggiorina One of the most important wines that Le Piane makes, La Maggiorina is the name of the historic vineyards acquired by Christoph Künzli at the very beginning. This wine is primarily Croatina, Nebbiolo, and Vespolina, but is in reality a field blend of 13 indigenous grapes grown in a beautiful pergola-like training method developed by Alessandro Antonelli. Three vines are trained towards four cardinal points (see the picture above!). If you have had this wine before, as of 2022 it is a much more serious wine, with an entirely new vinification and aging regimen.
