The Ettore Germano 2022 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a dark, rich expression with aromas of black fruit, dried cherry, pencil shavings and dark smoke. The warm vintage brings added structure and volume, qualities that are immediately apparent in the glass. Fermented with 20 to 30 days of skin contact and aged for two years in large oak casks followed by another year in bottle, the wine remains faithful to the muscular character of Serralunga d'Alba. There is a moment of leanness across the mid-palate that reins in the wine's otherwise generous profile. Production is 15,000 bottles.

The Germano family crafts Barolos that combine the appellation's trademark power with finesse. Today, the winery is led by Sergio Germano, with the next generation now officially joining the estate as Elia oversees vineyard management and export markets while Maria takes responsibility for winemaking. The family farms celebrated Serralunga MGAs (Prapò, Cerretta, Lazzarito and Vignarionda) while also pioneering high-elevation viticulture in Alta Langa, where Riesling and Chardonnay were planted in 1997 and today produce some of Piedmont's most compelling traditional-method sparkling wines. - Monica Larner July 2026
