The 2022 Erbaluce di Caluso (Green Label) is redolent of citrus peel, white flowers, white pepper and crushed rocks. The steelier side of Erbaluce comes through nicely in this nervy, tightly wound offering from Ferrando. - By Antonio Galloni on June 2023

My Tasting Note (for the 2021): 13% abv, From the Cascina Cariola vineyard, med/med+ complex and persistent with good flavor density and length (something the Ferrando family are masters at balancing in their red wines).  Medium lemon in color.  The nose is fresh, with pretty and detailed lemon and mandarin citrus, with pear and spring peach, plenty of mineral undertones.  The palate is fresh, with med+ flavor intensity and length, with a beautiful medium body and med/med+ acidity.  90% steel tank, 10% boti to add just a little more dimension from the oxygen of that large wood format.

Grapes: Erbaluce 100%
Site: A single-vineyard site in the the town of Piverone
Soils: Glacial granitic moraine
Vines: Planted at 1,800 vines/ha and trained in Guyot, vines average 40 years old.
Winemaking: Wine ferments in stainless-steel tanks; 4-6 months on the lees; NO MALO: Malolactic Fermentation is prevented through temperature; press wine is blended
Aging: 9-12 months in stainless-steel tanks (90%) and neutral oak boti (10%) with weekly batonnage
Importer: This special cuvée is produced from the single-vineyard “cru” site of Cascina Cariola situated in the village of Piverone. For ultimate ripeness, harvest frequently takes place in the first days of October. Fermentation is at controlled temperatures in stainless steel cuves. The wine, approximately 6,000 bottles annually, is bottled 9 to 12 months after harvest and is released after several months of additional aging in bottle.
