Etienne Calsac 'Rose de Craie' Rose NV
Drinking Window 2026 - 2030
The NV Extra Brut Rose de Craie is a Chardonnay-dominant (92%) rosé with 8% Pinot Noir. Fruit comes from the Sézannais, the Côte des Blancs and the Marne Valley. A creamy touch of yellow apple makes a brief appearance on the shy nose. The palate is alive with frothy mousse, foaming with abandon and showing off the slender wine that is underneath. Gentle white pepper completes the rounded, yet fresh and still slightly astringent fruit. Youthful and absolutely vivacious. Dosage is 3gr/L. Disgorged: June, 2023.

Etienne produces a confidential amount of rosé each year using Pinot Noir from Vertus, blended with a selection of base wine from L’Echapée Belle. Etienne’s goal is to create a pale-hued rosé reminiscent of the Blanc de Blancs house style. I like this wine young for its fresh, linear, and mineral character. I like it even more with 2-3 years of bottle age that adds more depth and length, the fruit component is richer, all the while maintaining freshness and energy.
