Domaine Christian Clerget Morey-Saint-Denis Les Crais Blanc 2022
Domaine Christian Clerget Morey-Saint-Denis Les Crais Blanc 2022
Our Tasting Note: Medium+ straw-gold. A pronounced nose of juicy apples, white peach, a saline mineral core, hazelnuts, toast, the outstanding nose jumps from the glass. The palate is intense, med+ body the 5% Pinot Blanc add body, and a very slightly viscous texture that adds to the body perception. A long, deep, complex and fresh finish is mostly importantly very delicious! Outstanding!
Vineyard: Comes from a parcel of vines with clay-limestone soil. Côte de Nuits - village of Morey-Saint-Denis. Morey-Saint-Denis wines are rare, and white Morey-Saint-Denis even rarer. .23 hectare, altitude of 250 meters.
Grapes: Chardonnay (90%), Pinot Blanc (5%), Pinot Meunier (5%)
Year planted: 2003
Winemaking: Direct pressing of whole bunches. Transfer to vats and settling for 24 hours, prior to the spontaneous start of alcoholic fermentation. Wines are then racked at a density of 1040 for a slow fermentation in oak barrels. Matured for 12 months in oak barrels, without any stirring of the lees.
Tasting Notes: This white wine is both crisp and rich. It has a great balance between citrus fruit and minerality. This rare wine is impressive and has a super-long finish. It is a wonderful example of Christian's talent as a top winemaker. This is an extremely RARE wine. It is one of the very few white wines in existence in the Cote de Nuits. Christian's Les Crais vineyard used to be planted in Pinot Noir. When he saw the soil makeup, he knew that Chardonnay would grow better there. Now, he has one of the few white wines in the Cote de Nuits -- and it is stunning!
