Drinking Window 2026 - 2034
The 2024 Langhe Nebbiolo Bricco Lago is a potent, deep wine for the year. Crushed flowers, game, incense, iron and dried herbs bring out the wilder side of Langhe Nebbiolo. The 2024 is ample in the feel. It has more than enough breadth and complexity to be quite versatile at the dinner table. This mid-weight, classy Langhe Nebbiolo is another solid effort from Cascina Penna Currado in 2024. - By Antonio Galloni on January 2026
These are three compelling wines from Cascina Penna Currado, the new project from Elena Penna, Luca Currado and their children, Michele and Giulia. Quite a bit has happened since I first visited the winery during construction. The wines continue to grow, which is great to see. I was also quite impressed with many of the wines I tasted from cask, specifically how they are coming together in barrel. Stylistically, the wines are a bit lighter and more vibrant than what was the norm when Penna and Currado were at Vietti. Cascina Penna Currado will release their first Barolos next year with the 2023 vintage.
From a unique vineyard site in Monforte d’Alba surrounded by unmatched biodiversity and clay and limestone soils, these Nebbiolo vines cascade down from the church of San Sebastiano towards the only natural lake in the Langhe. Cold maceration is used, followed by whole berry fermentation (not whole cluster, as they wish to avoid excessive power). 8 to 12 months of barrel aging set this Nebbiolo into a different realm in relation to other wines in its category.
