The 2018 Barbaresco Riserva Viti Vecchie Vallegrande is a very pretty wine. Crushed flowers, blood orange, mint, cinnamon, sage and dried flowers are all nicely lifted. The 2018 is marked by an exotic aromatic touch from a small amount of whole clusters that is evident without being dominant. Medium in body and gracious, the 2018 is seriously impressive. Another year in bottle has really helped this come together. The smaller scaled side of the year is evident, but the aromatics help fill out some of the layers. - By Antonio Galloni on September 2023

From the oldest vineyards surrounding the winery comes a Barbaresco with a dense tannic matrix, deep and rich. A patriotic wine that best expresses what the town of Treiso has to offer. Vallegrande Riserva Viti Vecchie is the ultimate synthesis of the Grasso family’s viti-vinicultural expressiveness.

Type of soil: grey calcareous-sandy marl
Exposure: West
Harvest: towards the beginning of October
Winemaking: The crushing of the grapes, hand-picked and selected in a few micro-areas of CRU Vallegrande, produces the must that ferments, with temperature-controlled maceration, in wooden vats. In the lively phase of fermentation, two punching-downs per day allow for the proper extraction of colours and aromas from the skins. Then, the submerged cap maceration continues for a long time, for about 60 days. After racking, the wine matures for 30 months in big oak casks and, finally, it matures in the bottle for 12 months before release.
