**** 90 points Jasper Morris
Still pale in colour, while the nose moves up a step in sumptuousness, with the peachy style of fruit. There is enough citrus to keep this honest. The Viré-Clessé very much demonstrates the style put in place by Dominique Lafon of infused finesse. Drink from 2026-2029. Tasted Oct 2025.
The fruit for the Viré-Clessé 2024 comes from a selection within a larger 7-hectare vineyard originally part of the Château de Viré estate that Dominique Lafon acquired in 2009, with vines as old as 75 years and a rare massale selection of Muscat clone Chardonnay.
The 2024 is fragrant, fresh, and beautifully textured, showing bright yellow fruit, white peach, citrus, and a subtle floral character, with plenty of mineral drive underneath. There is a nice combination of richness and freshness here—the fruit gives it generosity, while the acidity and mineral finish keep everything focused. It is a very sophisticated Viré-Clessé that shows just how far this appellation can go in the hands of the Lafon family.
