90pts Vinous
The 2022 Mediterra (Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) is a very pretty mid-weight red to drink now and over the next handful of years. Attractive floral and spice overtones lift a core of red cherry/plum fruit. This is nicely done. Drinking Window: 2024 - 2028

A blend of 40% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, the Poggio al Tesoro 2022 Mediterra shows hints of vintage ripeness with sweet blackberry and baked plum. The wine goes down easily thanks to it fruit-forward approach, soft tannins and subtle sweetness. This vintage does offer some crunch to its fruit, and this adds to a sense of lingering freshness. Production is a large 100,000 bottles. Reviewed by: Monica Larner

Poggio al Tesoro (owned by Marilisa Allegrini) has added an additional five hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon that will go into production in 2027.

Winery Notes
Poggio al Tesoro is a highly regarded estate in Bolgheri, founded in 2001 by the Allegrini family—one of the most respected names in Italian wine. Their vision was to capture the unique coastal terroir of Tuscany’s Maremma region, where Mediterranean breezes, mineral-rich soils, and abundant sunlight create ideal conditions for crafting expressive wines. Mediterra is considered the estate’s calling card: a vibrant, approachable blend designed to reflect both the international character of Bolgheri and the warmth of its maritime climate.

Tasting Notes
The 2022 Mediterra opens with an expressive nose of ripe blackberry, blueberry compote, and dark cherry, interwoven with notes of Mediterranean herbs, black pepper, and a touch of graphite. On the palate, it shows a generous, juicy fruit core supported by supple tannins and refreshing acidity. Subtle spice and cocoa from oak aging add depth without overpowering the wine’s natural freshness. The finish is long, polished, and savory, echoing with wild herbs and dark fruit.

Style & Pairing
A quintessential “Bolgheri blend,” Mediterra balances richness with elegance, making it versatile at the table. It pairs beautifully with grilled meats, roasted lamb, pasta with hearty ragù, or aged cheeses.
