The Weathered Hands Chenin Blanc 2022 by Dewaldt Heyns is a remarkable expression of the Swartland terroir. Made from 44-year-old bush vines, this wine showcases a light straw color with flavors of honey, pear, apricot, and delicate floral notes. The palate is rich and silky, complemented by subtle spice, yellow fruit flavors, and a balanced fresh finish. Dewaldt Heyns, a member of the Cape Winemakers’ Guild, draws influence from the Rhône, crafting wines that are modern yet grounded in quality.
Composition: 100% Chenin Blanc. Made from 44-year-old bush vines.
Winemaking: Fermented in 500-litre barrels, focusing on preserving the natural flavors and complexity of the grapes.
Aging: Aged for 14 months in 500-litre barrels to enhance the wine's structure and depth.
James Suckling (93): Toasted lemon rind, nutmeg, cedar and spiced apples on the nose, followed by a focused and full-bodied palate. It’s long and compact with phenolic tension. Deliciously spicy. Drink or hold.
