Blending 80% Merlot with 20% Sangiovese, the Gianni Brunelli Le Chiuse di Sotto 2022 Amor Costante offers a refreshing departure from the estate’s Sangiovese-focused wines, leaning into black cherry sweetness and softness from Merlot while retaining a lift of freshness from Sangiovese. The palate shows enough structure and texture to pair comfortably with rich pasta dishes and long-cooked meat sauces, though the vintage feels more immediately flashy than it is persistent. The style prioritizes approachability and charm over depth, making it enjoyable in the near term. Production totals 2,613 bottles.
By Monica Larner Jan 29, 2026 (The Wine Advocate):
Gianni Brunelli Le Chiuse di Sotto is a finely tuned Brunello estate that farms in several distinct zones of the appellation. Podernovone is a cool and windy site at 500 meters above sea level that includes two high-performing hectares on the crest of a hill known as Vigna Oliva. Le Chiuse di Sotto sits at 280 meters above sea level, where cooler soils are valued for the acidity they bring to the wines. A newly planted half-hectare parcel of Sangiovese in the Chiuse area, planted three years ago and now entering production, is intended to provide additional fruit over time to offset the estate’s famously severe quality selection. This mosaic of sites reflects the late Gianni Brunelli’s belief that Brunello achieves its greatest expression through blending complementary terroirs rather than relying on a single vineyard.

Vintage 2022: During autumn/winter, deep tillage was carried out in the rows in order to allow the water reserves to fill as much as possible. Organic fertilization was also carried out where needed. That is why, despite the drought and extraordinary heat during spring and summer, our vines did not suffer too much from water stress. At the end of July and beginning of August a few rainfalls occurred which was crucial for a good maturation. Due to the very low precipitations, the vineyards and grapes enjoyed a very good health. During the season, agronomic techniques were adopted aimed at limiting as much as possible the potential damage caused by the lack of rain and strong heat; the management of the leaf wall and the bunch band was central. The grapes presented good technological, phenolic and health quality. The wines obtained show complexity on the nose and a beautiful tannic texture. Despite the climate trend, good acidity should be highlighted, an excellent basis for refinement
