The 2022 La Colline Rouge is an orange/bronze-colored white based on a field blend composed of Pinot Gris and Riesling. Vinified on the mash for nine months in an amphora, the wine opens with a clear, delicate, fresh and elegant, still yeasty bouquet with limestone notes intermingled with fruit aromas of red pears, berries, oranges and tropical fruits. Very elegant, intense and complex on the palate, this is a tight, rich, long and complex, bone-dry orange wine that was bottled in September 2023 without the addition of sulfur dioxide. 13% stated alcohol. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.

The 2022 La Colline Rouge is grown on pure Jurassic limestone, facing south in the south of Bergheim, ripening early. It is a field blend of Riesling and Pinot Gris, partly skin-fermented and aged in amphora for a year. A lovely scent of dried orange peel comes with a touch of white pepper, signaling the maceration. The palate is bone dry and textured, playing with this tender veil of phenolics, revealing pure, tart plum fruit. This is an ultra-gastronomic wine. Made without any addition of sulfur dioxide. A red soil, a hot climate, and a tropical wine
The first limestone slab of the great Oolite, inclined towards the East and standing erect like a sentinel facing the South and the plain, the Rotenberg is the earliest Terroir of Bergheim. Its red soil, marked by iron, is deeply calcareous and the highly solar climate is the shared home of Riesling and Pinot Gris. The wines show the characteristics of citrus, less candied than on Grasberg, but fine and very elegant. Rotenberg wines are to be served fairly young. They are fresh and airy with a very aromatic lemony acidic note that is ideal when served with the best types of fish, which are thus illuminated in light that is … almost geological!
