Domaine Santa Duc Cotes du Rhone Rouge Vieilles Vignes 2022
Domaine Santa Duc Cotes du Rhone Rouge Vieilles Vignes 2022
From one of the Southern Rhône’s benchmark estates, Domaine Santa Duc, comes a Côtes du Rhône that punches well above its appellation. The 2022 Vieilles Vignes (“old vines”) is sourced from low-yielding parcels that showcase the depth, generosity, and finesse that have made this Gigondas-based domaine a reference point for terroir-driven Rhône reds.

Terroir
Fruit for the Vieilles Vignes comes from several old-vine sites near Rasteau and Vacqueyras, where stony clay-limestone soils and warm southern exposure yield grapes of natural concentration. Cooling Mistral winds maintain freshness and balance in the fruit, preserving the lively acidity that defines Santa Duc’s style. The combination of these terroirs gives the wine both plush southern Rhône ripeness and a fine, mineral backbone.
Tasting Notes
A deep garnet in the glass, the 2022 opens with expressive aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry, garrigue herbs, lavender, and cracked pepper. The palate is rich and supple yet beautifully balanced — layers of dark plum, raspberry compote, licorice, and cocoa glide over polished tannins. The old vines impart notable depth and length, while a thread of freshness and savory minerality lifts the finish.
The Santa Duc Côtes du Rhône Vieilles Vignes 2022 is a wine of both power and precision — a “mini-Gigondas” that overdelivers at every level. Winemaker Yves Gras crafts a red that’s generous, textured, and true to its Rhône roots, equally at home with hearty stews, grilled lamb, or Mediterranean fare. A superb introduction to one of the Rhône’s great traditional domaines.
