Allan Scott Pinot Noir 2023
Allan Scott Pinot Noir 2023
Allan Scott Family Winemakers, based in Marlborough, has been crafting estate-grown wines since the late 1980s, with a strong focus on varietal purity and expressive regional character. The 2023 Pinot Noir is sourced from carefully selected vineyards in the Wairau Valley. Fruit was hand-harvested and destemmed before undergoing a cool fermentation with gentle cap management to preserve aromatics and fine tannin texture. The wine matured in a mix of French oak barriques, a portion new, to enhance complexity while maintaining vibrant fruit expression.
Terroir
The Wairau Valley in Marlborough offers a unique microclimate for Pinot Noir. Gravelly alluvial soils provide excellent drainage, stressing the vines just enough to intensify concentration. Cool nights and sunny days extend the growing season, allowing for slow, even ripening. This balance of warmth and freshness produces Pinot Noirs with lifted aromatics, supple tannins, and a refined structure that speaks clearly of Marlborough’s terroir.
Tasting Notes
The 2023 vintage opens with perfumed aromas of dark cherry, ripe raspberry, and wild strawberry, layered with subtle hints of dried herbs, violet, and toasty oak spice. On the palate, it shows a silky texture with flavors of red plum, cranberry, and a touch of earthiness. The fine-grained tannins and bright acidity create an elegant frame, leading to a long, graceful finish with lingering notes of spice and red berry. Fresh and vibrant yet with enough depth to age a few years, this Pinot Noir is a versatile partner at the table.
