The NV Brut Grand Cellier (2022 base) is exuberant and showy. Then again, this is a 2022-base release. Lemon confit, tangerine oil, white flowers and pasty notes all meld together. There's gorgeous mid-palate viscosity and texture here. This is impeccably done. Dosage is 7 grams per liter. Disgorged: January 2025.
Father-and-son team Laurent and Thomas Champs turn out Champagnes of rare finesse and understatement at Vilmart. Wines are vinified and aged in oak, but only very rarely show any traces of wood. These Champagnes age beautifully, as I have seen for myself on many occasions. Vilmart fans will not want to miss the new Extra-Brut Blanc de Noirs Les Blanches Voies, a terrific addition to the range. As good as the top wines are, Vilmart also excels with their entry-level offerings. The Brut Grand Cellier Oenothèque T18, simply a late-release of the Grand Cellier, shows just how well that wine can age with proper cellaring. - Galloni May 2026
