Piollot MePetit Brut Nature 2020
Piollot MePetit Brut Nature 2020
Although Pinot Meunier is widely planted in the Marne Valley, it is relatively rare in the Aube. Only a mere 6% of the Piollot family vineyards are planted to Pinot Meunier, but they decided to highlight this grape with the Mepetit vineyard in Polisot starting in 2015. Aging in oak barrels gives this wine a uniquely complex texture and profile that is not to be missed. The wine is aged on the lees for four years before release, and like all of the Champagnes from Piollot, it’s disgorged non-dosé.

Tasting Note: MePetit 2020 captures the crystalline precision often found in the cooler, chalk-driven parcels of Champagne Piollot. The nose opens with bright citrus peel, green apple, and white peach, followed by subtle notes of fresh almond, crushed herbs, and oyster shell. On the palate, the wine is linear and energetic, with a finely etched mousse and a vibrant spine of acidity. Pure orchard fruit is framed by chalky minerality and a faint saline edge, giving the wine both tension and lift. Extended lees aging lends depth without weight, while the absence of dosage keeps the finish laser-focused, dry, and persistent. A vivid, high-definition expression of a more linear Pinot Meunier via the Aube!
