From a 1.26-hectare mosaic of choice plots—including Battaudes, Benoites, Puits Merdreaux, Mouchottes, and Voillenots Dessus—the Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge offers a rich expression of classic marl and limestone soils. Positioned on south-southeast facing slopes at altitudes between 220 and 325 meters, the vines, originally planted in 1938 and 1987, are pruned Cordon de Royat to yield exceptional concentration. Hand harvested, followed by 100% destemming and a 10-to-15-day fermentation using strictly native yeasts in a mix of stainless steel and concrete tanks. The wine then completes malolactic fermentation in oak barrels and matures over an 18-month élevage, culminating in a wine that is fining-adjusted with casein and bentonite and gently filtered prior to bottling for maximum purity and structural elegance.
