Showing a light ruby appearance, the Margherita Otto 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo offers a simple but pretty bouquet of dried cherry and rose petal. With fruit blended from five vineyard sites and a short 10- to 12-day maceration to preserve fruit and freshness, the wine remains straightforward yet delivers plenty of varietal character. Drink it young while those fresh, vibrant fruit tones are at their best. Aged for one year in large botti, production is 12,000 bottles.

Founded by Alan Manley in Monforte d'Alba, Margherita Otto embraces the traditional "assemblaggio" philosophy of Barolo, blending fruit from multiple vineyard sites before fermentation rather than vinifying each parcel separately. Fermented in concrete with long post-fermentation macerations and aged in large botti, the wines are rooted in classic Langhe traditions while expressing precision and transparency. Manley farms with a low-impact philosophy focused on the long-term health of his vineyards, saying he wants to do "what is necessary for the health and longevity of my plants and co-workers and not more."

The 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo is super classy and elegant. Sweet macerated cherry, cinnamon, dried rose petal, mint and cedar are all nicely lifted. A short fermentation keeps the flavors bright. This is so delicious. The aromatics alone are quite compelling.

Our Take: Bright and perfumed on the nose, with deep cherry, raspberry, rose petal and a touch of orange peel, backed by subtle spice and earth. Medium-bodied and energetic, with medium+ acidity and grippy tannins that give the wine a serious, structured edge. A serious Langhe Nebbiolo with excellent focus and a long finish.

2019 was the first vintage of this wine. It is made from a small part of vines registered as Nebbiolo Langhe in the Vignane MGA as well as some declassified fruit from Barolo parcels and Langhe Nebbiolo fruit from Coste di Rose MGA parcel is also included.

The Nebbiolo ferments on the skins in concrete for about 10 days before being racked to preserve fruit and freshness. It went the malolactic in steel and was transferred to a single neutral oak 1000L Mittelberger botti.
