Drinking Window 2025 - 2029
The 2024 Friulano is spicy and savory, mixing nuances of incense and ginger shavings with hints of Asian pear. It is more fruit-forward within, with a stimulating core of zesty acidity and crisp orchard fruits cascading throughout. The 2024 finishes long and saline in feel, with notes of green apple adding cheek-pinching tension. - By Eric Guido, October 2025
Our Take (TK): No score but this is always a textbook wine for the grape at it's most pleasant and easy drinking. Whenever I used find myself in Eataly in NYC over the holiday stays visiting my family I always get a bottle, now I don't have to go to a big city to get this little beaute!
Varietals: 100% Friulano
Vineyard: Sourced from a vineyard in the hills to the Northeast of Lonzano, Dolegna del Collio, in the province of Gorizia. Average age of vines is 50 years.
Soil: Their soil is a mix of marl (clay & lime) with marly limestone. It is a particular type of marl with a high pH. They feel that this especially high pH in the soil adds to the potential for aging in the wine.
Viticulture: Both Ivan and his brother, Pierpaolo, are entomologists, and so biodiversity is incredibly important to them. The winery is certified "Biodiversity Friend" which is an organization that surveys and protects biodiversity, ensuring that the production process does not lead to a loss of biodiversity and that the producer is committed to improving the qualityof the environment in which it operates.
Winemaking: Fermented with wild yeast in temperature-controlled stainless steel preceded by a one-day maceration on the skins. Aged on the lees for at least three months with frequent batonnage.
Aging: Aged for a couple of months in bottle before release.

Two thousand twenty-four is the current vintage of discussion at Ronchi di Cialla. Winemaker Ivan Rapuzzi recounted that 2024 was a strange and challenging year, beginning with frost and hail in April that resulted in the loss of an entire parcel of Ribolla Gialla. The challenges continued through May and June with cold and rainy conditions during bloom, leading to a normal number of clusters but a small number of berries. This reduced production by around 20%. The season then shifted to extremely high temperatures and arid conditions in July and August before returning to balanced precipitation and good diurnal shifts in the fall. In the end, the harvest was healthy, but overall quantities were drastically reduced. Ronchi di Cialla maintains an extensive library collection and sells older vintages directly from the winery, as well as through distribution.
