This classic cabernet sauvignon from Hendry HRW is a great value. Grown in the renowned Napa Valley, this vintage offers a full-bodied flavor profile with notes of dark fruit and a balanced tannin structure.

The grapes for the HRW series wines come from our 114-acre Napa Valley vineyard, the sole source for all Hendry wines. These are great everyday wines which have been selected for their drinkability and varietal character, made from the press wines and younger or less intensely flavored blocks in a given vintage.

Average production in our Cabernet blocks is relatively low: between 1.5 and 2.5 tons per acre. Vines on the Hendry Ranch grow on thin stony alluvial soil between 200 and 300 feet above sea level. Morning fog and strong afternoon breezes from San Pablo Bay (the northern end of the San Francisco Bay) moderate our climate. Our Cabernet vines in Blocks 8, 9F, 16, 17 and 18 are spaced 7’ x 5’, cordon-trained and spurpruned. The clones are U.C. Davis 4, 7 and 15, and Entav 337. All are grafted to St. George roots. A sevenfoot vertical trellis system supports the cordon and the canopy. Average bloom-to-harvest for our Cabernet blocks was 124 days in 2020, and average yield was two tons per acre.

The HRW Cabernet Sauvignon is aged for 18 months in French Oak barrels, approximately 10% of which are new. The remaining barrels are one and two-year-old barrels used in our Hendry Cabernet program. The wine is sealed with a screw-cap closure for slow bottle evolution and preservation of fruit aspects.

This is a nice glass of wine! Opaque, medium-ruby color, slight violet hue of a young wine. Slightly lighter in body than our Hendry label Cabernet. Mouthwatering berry/currant, mint, caramelized sugar, smoke and soy on the nose. The silky palate offers tangy blackcurrant, and dark berries, finishing with bittersweet cocoa. Medium-bodied. Fine-grained tannins offer just enough structure to this easy-drinking wine. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Pair with burgers on the grill, steaks, chops. A tasty, versatile, go-to Cabernet Sauvignon for everyday drinking.
