Ferrando Cascina Cariola Erbaluce di Caluso 2024
Ferrando Cascina Cariola Erbaluce di Caluso 2024
91pts Vinous
The 2024 Erbaluce di Caluso Etichetta Verde is sourced from the upper section of the vineyard and is partly vinified in barrel, for about 10% for this vintage. Apricot, yellow peach, spice, marzipan and a kiss of new French oak are nicely amplified in the glass, The Etichetta Verde is decidedly rich and textured in feel. I lean towards the Etichetta Bianca, although there no denying partial aging in barrel adds volume that 2024 naturally offers less of.

Ferrando has been the standard-bear
Ferrando is the reference-point estate in Carema. American importer Neal Rosenthal, who has represented Ferrando since 1980, bought the winery in 2023, as the next generation of the family wished to focus on other endeavors. So far, not much has changed, but as a fervent supporter of Carema, I suspect Rosenthal has some exciting new developments in store. The main wines remain the two Caremas. As always, the Etichetta Bianca (White Label) is the more linear and vibrant of the two wines. The Etichetta Nera (Black Label) is done in a richer, more structured style informed by a dash of neutral French oak that adds textural resonance.
