My Tasting Note (2021)
Ruby red, transparent core, vibrant edges. Very pronounced aromas jump out of the glass with crushed red raspberries, red cherry, subtle spices, minerality, and the classic tar and roses. Medium bodied, med/med+ youthful, fine, and ripe tannins, med/med+ acidity keeps it fresh. Pronounced flavor intensity, with a long, driving, and fresh finish of fruit, floral, and pleasant bitterness. Gorgeous, best ever young Nebbiolo I have ever had, outstanding!
Grape: 100% Nebbiolo
Vineyard: Sanche is a steep, terraced, two-hectare cru of 70-year-old vines planted at 300m asl in very sandy soils, some clay blends in too. It’s the heart of this farm. The field has to be worked by hand. No tractor could safely traverse it.
Farming: Regenerative agriculture. Organic in the vineyard. No herbicides. Cover crops are planted and cut in the spring.
Winemaking: Fermented with indigenous yeasts with a pied de cuvée in oak vats with a submerged cap for fermentation, about 35 days.
Maturation: 24 months in used 225 & 500L used French oak barrels (minimum of 3 years used for each). No filtration or fining at bottling.
Production: Only 167 cases produced
