88 pts John Gilman – A View from the Cellar The 2023 Petit Chablis from Domaine Louis Michel is a fine example. The wine is bright and expressive on the nose, wafting from the glass in a mix of green apple, lime, chalky soil tones, white flowers and a topnote of citrus peel. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied and nicely succulent at the core, with good acids, a wide open personality and lovely length and grip on the well balanced and complex finish. Good juice.
The young Petit Chablis vines, which are planted in direct sunlight on the plateau overlooking the Valmur and Les Clos grand crus, gives a fresh, lively, fruit-forward wine to be enjoyed in its youth.
Terroir: Portlandian. Right bank slopes. Shallow and very stony soils, rich in organic matter. Shallow limestone soil. Vines planted 1991-1999.
