The 2023 Zinfandel Juvenile is bold, juicy and super-expressive, all of which make it a fine choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Bright red/purplish fruit, lavender, spice and new leather build nicely in this tasty, mid-weight offering from Turley.

Once again, proprietor Larry Turley and longtime winemaker Tegan Passalacqua presented a captivating collection of wines rooted in the important legacy of historic vineyards in California. Year in, year out, this is one of my favorite tastings anywhere in the world, as the wines are so vivid, so imbued with the essence of place. Two thousand twenty-three is an exceptional vintage here, the sort of vintage where choosing which wines to focus on will be challenging, in the best sense of the term. The new Hayne Cabernet Sauvignon is truly special.
California can be a logistically challenging region to cover, as many brands produce wines from appellations throughout the state. For Turley’s extensive portfolio, Sonoma County and Central Coast reviewers Erin Brooks and Matthew Luczy collaborated on scores and text to create this special co-report on the 2022 vintage. The pair tasted this prolific lineup of Zinfandels, Petite Sirahs and Cabernet Sauvignons with winemaker Tegan Passalacqua, proprietor Larry Turley and his daughter Christina Turley at the St. Helena winery.
