To prepare for the event, we recently tasted four of the Champagnes that will be featured, and they exceeded expectations. The takeaway is simple: these are exceptionally well-made Champagnes that deliver tremendous value and pleasure. At a time when nearly everything seems to be getting more expensive, it's refreshing to discover a genuine luxury that remains remarkably affordable.
This year, Champagne Devaux celebrates its 180th anniversary. Based in the Côte des Bar, the house shares its home with many of our favorite grower-producers, including Marie-Courtin, Cedric Bouchard, Drappier, Pierre Gerbais, and Fleury. The region has become one of Champagne's most exciting sources for characterful, Pinot Noir-driven wines.
Among the wines we tasted, the Devaux Blanc de Noirs was the standout favorite—a result that comes as no surprise given the prominence of Pinot Noir in the Côte des Bar. However, Philippe will be pouring six Champagnes in total, including several of the house's top cuvées that we have yet to sample. The full lineup is listed below!
Champagne Devaux also holds the unique distinction of serving as the official Champagne of the Eiffel Tower.
Philippe Meurant brings more than two decades of international wine experience, having worked throughout Burgundy, the Rhône Valley, Argentina, and Hungary. What makes Philippe particularly engaging is his deep connection to terroir, viticulture, and the people behind the wines. His presentations are informative, authentic, and approachable, making this a tasting not to be missed.
