Wine Critic Reviews
Gismondi on Wine (91): Native Sicilians and friends Guido and Nicola joined forces in 2015, leaving their consulting jobs to create Elios, focusing on naturally made, terroir-true wines from their family farms' vineyards that were previously sold off as cheap bulk fruit. This orange is equal parts Catarratto, Zibibbo, and Grillo, off 17 year old vines rooted in calcareous clay soils at 300m. After a native ferment in stainless, with 20 days' skin contact, it remained there on lees until the following spring. The blend brings a welcome richness to this burnished orange wine, with wild orange, wild mint, fresh rosemary, scrubby florals all intertwined on the lightly textural, medium bodied, oily palate. The skin grip is well countered by the Mediterranean flavours, finishing with a saline wash. Allow this to open up and enjoy off the chill, closer to room temperature. (Treve Ring).
