Drinking Window 2026-2034
The 2024 Roero is a total delight. Pliant, aromatic and super expressive, the 2024 has so much to offer. Crushed flowers, mocha, new leather, rose petal, menthol and licorice lend notable complexity. More than anything else, I am so impressed with the wine's textural depth, something that was very hard to come by in 2024. The Roero spent six months in barrel, perfectly judged for this vintage.

Giovanni Correggia is doing a tremendous job in continuing the legacy built by his parents. This is a terrific set of releases. The sparkling wines show greater maturity, but what I really see here more than anything else is a great deal of intent behind the choices that inform the wines. The entry-level offerings are terrific, while the top Roero reds offer notable depth and intensity in a contemporary style. These wines favor energy and perhaps a bit more site expression than those founder Matteo Correggia made, before his untimely passing in a tractor accident cut short his ability to uncover these nuances himself. Correggia has been an important name in Piedmont for several decades. The wines have never been better.

We opened one of these in the shop recently to try for ourselves and share with some customers. (Our Take) The wine is a charmer for sure, easy to drink, no hard tannic or acid edges, soft, delicate red cherry and berry fruit, a touch of tar and roses, and some crushed stone minerality beneath it all. You can chill this or serve it at regular temperature in situations that are as varied from charcuterie, cheeses, and pizza on up to more substantial pork or roast chicken. Think lighter nebbiolo to pinot noir like situations and this fits perfectly there.

Matteo Correggia was one of the leaders of the young generation that brought so much attention to Piedmont in the late 1980s. Sadly, a tractor accident in 2001 cut his life tragically short, leaving behind a wife and two young children. I visited the estate a few times in the years that followed. Correggia’s widow, Ornella, did a tremendous job in keeping the estate running while also advancing approaches to sustainable viticulture and raising her children. Giovanni Correggia was just a young boy at the time. Today, he is a young man who has confidently taken charge of his family’s domaine. The wines continue to improve, always heading in a direction of greater focus and energy. This is an estate to watch, as the best is yet to come.
