The Bosco delle Cicale 2024 from Francesco Boschis is a vibrant and expressive Freisa from the Langhe hills of Piedmont. This wine showcases the Boschis family’s commitment to traditional, terroir-driven winemaking, capturing the lively spirit of one of the region’s most distinctive native grapes. The vineyard sits on well-drained, calcareous-clay soils with a gentle southern exposure, providing ideal conditions for slow, balanced ripening. The altitude and cooling breezes of the Langhe enhance aromatic freshness and maintain the natural acidity that defines Freisa.

Technical Notes:
Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel to preserve aromatic clarity and energy. The wine sees brief maceration on the skins to develop color, texture, and structure, followed by aging on fine lees without oak influence. The 2024 vintage benefited from an even growing season, producing grapes with concentrated flavors, balanced acidity, and ripe tannins—perfect for crafting a Freisa that is both approachable in its youth and age-worthy.

Our Tasting Note:
Darker ruby red core.  A pronounced nose of savory and spicy dark red fruits, sweet blood orange, violets, lots of black tea, a touch of smoke. Med+ body and tannins, ample acidity, pronounced long, intense finish. Outstanding!

Tasting Notes:
In the glass, Bosco delle Cicale 2024 reveals a bright ruby hue and a lively, aromatic profile of red cherry, raspberry, and subtle wildflower notes, complemented by hints of licorice and crushed herbs. The palate is fresh and energetic, with vibrant red fruit framed by fine, silky tannins and a mineral-driven structure. The wine’s natural acidity gives it lift and precision, culminating in a long, harmonious finish with delicate spice and a whisper of earthiness.

Terroir & Style:
The vineyard’s calcareous-clay soils impart minerality and tension, while the elevation and exposure contribute to aromatic complexity and elegance. Boschis’ low-intervention approach emphasizes the unique character of the Freisa grape, highlighting its bright fruit, floral nuances, and natural vibrancy without unnecessary manipulation.

Francesco Boschis ‘Bosco delle Cicale’ Freisa Langhe 2024 is a charming, versatile wine that pairs beautifully with grilled vegetables, roasted poultry, and light pasta dishes. Its freshness, balance, and typicity make it an excellent introduction to Freisa, while its depth and precision reward those who appreciate the nuance of Piedmont’s native varieties.
