Domaine Bonnet-Cotton has quickly become one of the most exciting names in Beaujolais, thanks to the dynamic father-and-son team of Pierre and Jean-Baptiste Cotton. Farming is conducted organically and biodynamically across their hillside parcels, with a strong respect for the living soils and old vines that define their wines. The cuvée “100%” comes from Gamay planted on the steep slopes of Brouilly, rooted in granitic and volcanic soils that imbue the wine with both energy and depth.

The 2023 vintage benefited from a balanced growing season, producing fruit that is both ripe and vibrant. As always, harvesting was done by hand, and vinification follows traditional Beaujolais methods. Whole clusters are placed into concrete vats for a semi-carbonic maceration, fermenting with native yeasts to capture the lively aromatics and supple texture of Gamay. After a gentle pressing, the wine ages in cement tanks for about 8 months before bottling without fining or filtration, and with minimal sulfur.

In the glass, Brouilly “100%” 2023 shines with a vivid ruby hue and an expressive bouquet of crushed raspberries, red currants, violets, and a touch of wild herbs. There’s a stony, granitic edge beneath the fruit that adds freshness and precision. On the palate, it is juicy and energetic, with supple tannins and a bright, mouthwatering acidity that propels the red fruit flavors—think pomegranate, cranberry, and ripe cherry—into a long, mineral-tinged finish. Hints of pepper, licorice, and subtle floral tones add further complexity.

This is Gamay at its most joyous yet transparent: pure, crunchy, and alive with the character of Brouilly’s granite soils. While it is delicious served slightly chilled and enjoyed young for its vibrancy, it also has the balance to develop gracefully over the next 3–5 years.
