The Cascina Penna-Currado 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo Bricco Lago shows a streamlined personality with red and purple fruits folded into lightly toasted spice and earthy aromas. This vintage has a sweet side matched by a savory side, and despite the heat and challenges of the vintage, Bricco Lago, with old-vine fruit, shows impeccable winemaking with a very clean and polished style. The 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo Bricco Lago emerges from the younger vines on the property that are about 25 years old. It offers up bright red-toned fruit, white flowers, chalk and mint. Aging of nine months in cask works quite well here. This is an impressive showing, especially considering it was bottled just a week before my visit. - By Antonio Galloni on September 2024

The 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo Bricco Lago was tasted from cask and is bright with ripe raspberries, framboise, wild fresh herbs, and a clean finish. Zesty and fresh, it has great ripe fruit and a chalky texture with a more linear feel. Crunchy and bright, I love this vintage of this wine for its ease and snappy lift.
From a unique vineyard site in Monforte d’Alba surrounded by unmatched biodiversity and clay and limestone soils, these Nebbiolo vines cascade down from the church of San Sebastiano towards the only natural lake in the Langhe. Cold maceration is used, followed by whole berry fermentation (not whole cluster, as they wish to avoid excessive power). 8 to 12 months of barrel aging set this Nebbiolo into a different realm in relation to other wines in its category.
