Our Tasting Note 7/18/25:
Leave open or decant this for 30 minutes, some minor reduction is on this wine on the cork pull.
for at least Our third vintage of this wine, this is the freshest one yet as 2024 was a cooler vintage. Med+ ruby color, vibrant edges. A pronounced nose with fresh red, dark red, and blue fruits up front of berries, cherries, and plums, with dashes of bakings spices, earth and forest floor, with a underpinning of minerality. The palate is med/med+ bodied, similar levels of nicely integrated tannin, med acidity, with pronounced fresh flavors. This has a long, fruit driven, fresh, slightly tannic and mouthwatering.  Lots of perfume resonating on the palate. Another winner.

The track record....

The 2023 Score: 93+ Wine Advocate
The 2023 Clos Lojen is even more of a bargain than in previous years, as the price is the same and the quality is even higher!! It started being produced with 40-year-old vines, but those are by now 60 years old (I saw some of them, and they were REALLY impressive!); so, there's more depth and complexity; the vines are wiser (they've been tended nicely...) and manage to keep the freshness and approachability. They started harvesting the last week of August, and the result was 12.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.65 and 5.4 grams of acidity. The full clusters fermented in 4,500-liter oak vats and matured in foudres of different sizes—4,500, 10,000 and 15,000 liters—and lasted six months. The wine is fruit-driven, juicy, complex and spicy, balanced and tasty, textured and with a chalky feeling. This is way beyond what the price might suggest. 52,000 bottles produced in 2023. It was bottled between April and June 2024.

The 2022 Score: 93 Wine Advocate
The 2022 Clos Lojen was produced with Bobal from old head-pruned and dry-farmed vines on limestone, clay and rocky soils that fermented with full clusters in 4,500-liter oak vats and matured in a combination of 4,500-, 10,000- and 15,000-liter oak vats for six months. It's quite fruit-driven and has a moderate 12.5% alcohol and good freshness. It's an explosion of flowers, red berries and herbs with a medium-bodied palate with fine tannins and a tasty finish with complexity and balance, crunchy. A delicious bargain. 60,000 bottles produced. It was bottled between March and August 2023.
