The 2020 Montefalco Sagrantino Colle Grimaldesco is a total pleasure on the nose, with vividly ripe black raspberries, crushed cherries, incense and dried flowers. This is juicy in character and surprisingly spry, with depths of red and blue fruits that take on a tactile feel as a collection of minerals amass toward the close. The 2020 finishes long and with a chalky resonance, leaving sweet tannins offset by a tart blackberry tinge.

Our take: A classic expression of Sagrantino with quite an expressive nose of ripe blackberries, dark plum, and blood oranges accented by dried herbs, pepper and subtle sandalwood/cocoa spice. On the palate it’s full-bodied and structured, with firm yet integrated tannins, vibrant acidity and layered flavors of dark fruit, licorice and savory spice, finishing long with mineral persistence and a touch of sage-like complexity.
