The 2023 Volnay Village, which comes from the young vines in Santenots, has a lively and fresh bouquet with scents of redcurrant, cranberry and slightly earthy notes, opening nicely with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. Like the Pommard, this is easy-drinking without huge grip, yet there is elegance and charm toward the friendly, peppery finish.

An excellent introduction to the red wines of Dominique Lafon, this Volnay is sourced from several village-level parcels and crafted with the same meticulous care as the domaine’s premier crus. Depending on the vintage, fermentation incorporates varying amounts of whole clusters, followed by gentle extraction and extended barrel aging to preserve finesse and site expression. The 2023 vintage highlights Volnay’s signature elegance, offering vibrant red fruit, floral lift, and silky structure with the balance to evolve beautifully over the next decade.
