Just Tasted 9/29/25: A med+ ruby red core.  The nose is very complex, in line with it's classification as the Riserva of Corzano and Paterno, and because it is an IGT that is 100% Sangiovese like all of Tuscany's best Sangiovese only IGT wines that do not call themselves Chianti Classico.  The wine is aromatically endowed with beautiful layers of fresh, red, dusty, cherries and berries, with barely a touch of sweet balsamic, earth, leather, and brown spices. On the palate this med to med+ bodied wine has spectacular energy, lift and poise, with med/med+ fine tannins and acidity that leans more med+. The vibrant and spiced red fruits on the palate are classic, juicy, and dense, with a long finish. You can definitely enjoy this now with some air for the delicious primary fruit or allow to age gracefully for 10-12 years.

  • The best Sangiovese grapes are selected and hand harvested in the vineyards and again at the cellar.
  • Fermentation in small 10hl open fermentors with 10% whole bunch. In the best years a small portion of the grapes are not destemmed.
  • Maceration 28 days with daily gentle plunging of the cap is done manually and only rarely pump overs. After gentle pressing of the skins it completes malolactic fermentation in wood.
  • Ageing in used barriques and tonneaux 12 months and then in large 25hl oak casks for a further 12 months.
  • Bottled August 2024 it is only produced in the best years!

Fattoria Corzano e Paterno sits on 200 hectares in San Casciano Val di Pesa, a Tuscan commune located just southwest of Florence. Founded by Swiss architect Wendelin Gelpke in 1969, the farm — owned and managed by the Gelpke and Goldschmidt families — is renowned for its production of world-class wine, olive oil and sheep's milk cheeses. Following Wendel's passing in 2001, his nephew Aljoscha Goldschimdt took over as winemaker and managing the estate. Joschi is a farmer first; his 20 hectares of pristine vineyards are organically tended and are cropped at a low yield. Following the lead of Paolo de Marchi of Isole e Olena, he has planted the new, high quality Sangiovese clones with tight spacing in order to create wines of distinction and elegance.  In 2005, Joschi was joined by Wendel's daughter Arianna, who had then completed her studies in enology and viticulture and has managed the cellar ever since. Under Joschi's leadership, the next generation of his family is also taking an increased role in the vineyard and cellar, with his son Will joining the team in 2018.
