Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes represents the pinnacle of this renowned Rhône Valley estate's winemaking artistry. Crafted from ancient vines planted on the distinctive terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this exceptional cuvée showcases the depth and complexity that only comes from low-yielding old vines. The wine displays remarkable concentration with layers of dark fruit, Mediterranean herbs, and mineral undertones that reflect the unique galets roulés stones and diverse soils of this legendary appellation.

Composition: Traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape blend dominated by Grenache with Syrah, Mourvèdre, and other permitted varietals
Sourced from the estate's oldest vine parcels planted on classic galets roulés and clay-limestone soils
Winemaking: Hand-harvested grapes undergo traditional fermentation with indigenous yeasts and extended maceration
Aging: Matured in a combination of large oak foudres and smaller barrels to preserve fruit character while adding complexity

Wine Critic Reviews

Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider (94): Rich, ripe, round, full-bodied, and packed with black cherries, licorice, herbs, cocoa, and black raspberries, with a creamy texture, the wine leaves you with layers of supple-textured, dark, red fruits. The wine is a blend of 85% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre. Drink from 2027-2038.

Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider (95): One of the deeper colored wines this year, licorice, smoke, flowers, cocoa, black cherries, and mint create the perfume. The wine is lush, supple, fresh, and creamy with layers of dark red fruits, and spice that linger on the palate and in the finish. This is one of the wines of the vintage. The wine is a blend of 85% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre. Drink from 2025-2036.
