Wine Critic Reviews
Falstaff (94): Deep dark ruby in colour with an opaque core, purple reflections, and subtle brightening on the rim. Initially somewhat shy, an inviting bouquet on the nose with ripe red cherry, blackberry confit, and fine cassis. The full-bodied palate has a cherry-like texture, already well-developed, supporting tannins, and a hint of tannin that needs further maturation in the bottle, fresh, mineral and promising.
Owen Bargreen (97): One of the iconic wines from Argentina, the 2020 ‘Nicolas Catena Zapata’ has considerably more Cabernet Sauvignon (54%) than the previous vintage, with Malbec (21%) and the remainder Cabernet Franc (25%). Anise, tar, blackberry compote and huckleberry with dark chocolate shavings all mark the nose. The palate is beautifully structured and complex, showing violets alongside a gorgeous melange of black and blue fruits. Soft, refined and well-structured, with firm tannins, enjoy this beautiful wine now and over the next twenty years.
