Francesco Cadinu 'Perdas Longas' Cannonau di Sardegna 2021
Francesco Cadinu 'Perdas Longas' Cannonau di Sardegna 2021
From the rugged, high-altitude vineyards of Mamoiada in central Sardinia, Francesco Cadinu delivers a soulful, site-specific expression of Cannonau with Perdas Longas 2021. Made with low intervention and immense respect for tradition and terroir, this wine is a far cry from the overly ripe or oaky expressions often associated with Grenache. It is precise, lifted, and hauntingly pure.
Appearance:
Pale ruby with a translucent core—unfined, unfiltered, and vibrant, reflecting its natural winemaking approach.
Nose:
Aromatic and complex, the nose is a beautiful interplay of wild red berries, dried rose petals, and fresh Mediterranean herbs—think thyme, myrtle, and bay leaf. There’s also a subtle earthy note—iron-rich soil, dried citrus peel, and a touch of liquorice and spice.
Palate:
Light to medium-bodied but with incredible intensity and drive. The texture is silky, the tannins are fine-grained yet grippy, and the acidity is beautifully lively—a hallmark of the high-altitude, granite-rich soils of Mamoiada. Flavors of cranberry, sour cherry, and pomegranate mingle with savory elements: dusty mineral, dried herbs, and just a hint of wild fennel.
Finish:
Long, energetic, and refreshingly dry, with a slightly wild, feral edge that keeps you coming back.
Style & Winemaking:
Made with spontaneous fermentation, no filtration, and minimal to no sulfur, Perdas Longas is a natural wine in the truest sense, but with balance and precision, not funk or fatigue. It captures the essence of old-vine Cannonau grown at altitude, far from the coastal heat.
Food Pairing:
Ideal with grilled lamb, roast game birds, charred vegetables, or traditional Sardinian dishes like porceddu (roast suckling pig). Also excellent slightly chilled, with herby lentils or aged pecorino.
