Bryn Mawr Vineyards Pinot Noir 2021
Bryn Mawr Vineyards Pinot Noir 2021
Bryn Mawr Vineyards, perched high in Oregon’s Eola-Amity Hills AVA, is known for producing expressive, site-driven Pinot Noir from estate fruit. The 2021 vintage was hand-harvested, carefully destemmed, and fermented with a mix of native and selected yeasts. Gentle extraction techniques ensured balance and finesse. The wine was matured in French oak barrels, a modest percentage new, for about 12 months to add subtle spice and structure without overwhelming the purity of fruit.
Terroir
Bryn Mawr sits on the steep volcanic slopes of the Eola-Amity Hills, with elevations reaching 700–870 feet, among the highest in the Willamette Valley. The rocky basalt and volcanic soils provide excellent drainage and contribute a distinct mineral edge. The region’s defining “Van Duzer Corridor” winds funnel cool ocean breezes through the vineyards each afternoon, slowing ripening, preserving acidity, and enhancing aromatic intensity. These conditions yield Pinot Noir of tension, precision, and vibrancy.
Tasting Notes
The 2021 Pinot Noir shows a bright garnet color and a lifted bouquet of red cherry, cranberry, and wild raspberry, intertwined with violet, dried herbs, and subtle spice from oak. On the palate, it is lively and medium-bodied, with fresh red fruit flavors supported by earthy undertones and hints of tea leaf and clove. The tannins are fine and well-integrated, balanced by vibrant acidity that carries through to a long, graceful finish. Elegant yet energetic, this wine beautifully expresses its high-elevation Eola-Amity origin.
