The 2023 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is from two lieu-dits that are blended together. This has a lively and exuberant bouquet, very expressive of its terroir and at the moment, displaying more energy than the Fôrets. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, just a touch mentholé towards the finish, but retaining freshness and terroir expression throughout. I see this maturing beautifully in bottle - a very impressive 2023 in the making. - By Neal Martin on June 2024

Eleni & Edouard Vocoret’s 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is sourced from a 0.14-hectare plot in Chapelot and 0.4 hectares in Pied d’Alou, planted in 1981 and the 1960s, respectively. It mingles the clay-rich soils of the former with the stonier soils of the latter. Expressive and more flamboyant than the tight-knit Butteaux, it soars from the glass with scents of crisp pear, beeswax, tangerine zest and peach. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, ample, enveloping and textural with a bright spine of acidity and chalky grip, concluding with a saline finish.
Terroir: With two plots totaling .54 hectares in 2023, this iconic right-bank 1er Cru is renowned for its power and longevity. Structured and age-worthy, Montée de Tonnerre is often considered the peer of Chablis Grand Cru.
