The 2022 Domaine Gueneau Sancerre Rouge 'Terres de Fossiles' offers a deep dive into the unique terroir of the Loire Valley. This wine captivates with its intense and complex aromas of black cherry, blackberry, wormwood, cacao, and a hint of toast. The palate is equally compelling, with these aromas nestled amid a voluminous body and soft, silky tannins. The earthy Sancerre base shines through, complemented by notes of cherries in brandy, tobacco leaves, and nutmeg.
Composition: Pinot Noir. Vines are 25 years old, growing on thick limestone soils.
Winemaking: The winemaking process focuses on preserving the unique characteristics of the terroir and varietal.
Aging: Aged in a manner that enhances the wine's natural complexity and depth.
Wine Enthusiast (91): Sancerre isn't just about white wine, and this Sancerre proves why you should be paying more attention. A perfumed nose of dried red cherry, leather, dried mushroom, forest floor and strawberry is this Pinot Noir's calling card. The wine is complex, bright yet mature with soft, well-integrated tannins befitting its age.
