Aurore Dezat & David Girard Domaine des Chasseignes Sancerre Rose 2024
Aurore Dezat & David Girard Domaine des Chasseignes Sancerre Rose 2024
Our Tasting Note: Pale salmon in hue, the nose is lifted and pure, offering aromas of fresh raspberry, wild strawberry, rose petal, and a whisper of blood orange zest. The palate is taut and mineral-driven, with brisk citrus acidity framing delicate red berry fruit. A subtle chalky texture lingers on the finish, echoing the stony soils of Sury-en-Vaux.
Grape varieties: 100% Pinot Noir
Vineyards: Grown on Sancerre’s three classic terroirs—Terres Blanches, Caillottes, and Silex—this rosé captures the elegance and precision of the Loire. Certified organic (2023).
Vinification: As expected for Sancerre rosé, it’s made via direct pressing of Pinot Noir grapes, without blending red and white. This yields a pale, delicate color and style.
Alcohol: 12.5%
Pairing: Ideal alongside charcuterie, chèvre, or delicate seafood dishes, yet equally compelling on its own.
Domaine des Chasseignes is a family-run estate in Sury-en-Vaux, at the heart of the Sancerre appellation in France’s Loire Valley. Its story begins with Alphonse Dezat and his wife Joséphine, great-grandparents of current proprietor Aurore Dezat. Originally a mixed farm with livestock, grain fields, and a few vineyard parcels, it was under the care of their son, Marcel, that the viticultural focus began to grow. Marcel expanded the vineyard holdings, including planting the lieu-dit Les Chasseignes—one of the family’s first plots and now among Sancerre’s most celebrated sites.
The third generation, Denis Dezat and his brother Claude, further increased vineyard plantings and gradually shifted the farm’s activities away from livestock toward dedicated winemaking.
In 2011, Aurore Dezat assumed leadership of the domaine, joined in 2016 by her husband, David Girard. Bringing extensive expertise in organic and biodynamic viticulture, David has guided the estate toward full organic certification, set to be achieved in 2023.
Today, Aurore and David farm 9.5 hectares within the Sancerre appellation: 8.11 hectares planted to Sauvignon Blanc and 1.39 hectares to Pinot Noir. The vineyards, mostly around Sury-en-Vaux, span the appellation’s three emblematic terroirs—Terres Blanches, Caillottes, and Silex—each contributing its own expression to the wines of Domaine des Chasseignes.
