The 2023 Primofiore is more savory than sweet, opening with dusty rose tones, a beguiling whiff of tangerine, wild strawberries and stone dust. It is round and energetic in style, perfumed with violet and lavender tones as ripe blackberry fruits swirl throughout. Known as the estate’s “first flower,” this wine is the youngest red released each year, offering an early yet characterful expression of the house style. Following harvest, the grapes are placed in wooden boxes and allowed to continue ripening for approximately one month before pressing. After fermentation, the wine is aged for just over a year in large Slavonian oak barrels, preserving freshness while adding subtle texture and depth. Sourced from 30-year-old vines rooted in limestone and basalt soils across 11 hectares, the blend of 50% Corvina Veronese and Corvinone with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc delivers a harmonious balance of bright fruit, savory nuance, and gentle structure, making it immediately expressive yet unmistakably Quintarelli in character.
