91pts Vinous
The 2022 Pommard Les Charmots 1er Cru, which includes 20% whole-bunches, has a reserved bouquet compared to its peers. Well-defined, it has impressive transparency, with raspberry and dark cherry fruit and hints of tobacco in the background. The palate is medium-bodied and silky smooth, with pliant tannins, fine delineation and a caressing, Volnay-like finish. This is going to be impossible to resist in its youth! Tasted at merchants' 2022 Burgundy tastings in London. Drinking Window: 2025 - 2037

Notes from Vineyard
A remarkable terroir, facing south/southeast and planted with century-old vines. It produces a tender, rich, concentrated wine that can stand the test of time. A wine to be left to age a little so that it opens up fully, the tannic texture then taking on its roundness.

Situation
The Pommard vineyard is located in Côte de Beaune, between Beaune and Volnay. The controlled designation of origin for Pommard wines was recognized in 1936, among the first in Burgundy. There are only red wines in the Pommard appellation.

Features
The “Les Charmots” climate is located to the north of the village. The soil is mainly made up of clay and limestone. The vineyard is being converted to organic farming. The soil is worked by horse.

Winemaking
After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes are destemmed and then stored in vats whose temperature is regulated using flags. Pre-fermentation maceration for a few days followed by alcoholic fermentation. The rhythm of punching down and pumping over is decided during tasting. The maceration and fermentation temperature is controlled. After pressing, the new wine is then placed in French oak barrels for the entire duration of its aging.
