Another wine that's just about to be bottled is the 2020 Todos, which is a final blend of 57% Syrah, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petite Sirah, 6% Cabernet Franc, and the rest a mix of varieties. Ripe blueberries, fresh plums, chocolate, and peppery notes all define the nose, and it's full-bodied, with a plush, rounded texture, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. It should be a no-brainer purchase.
The talented winemaking team of Matt Dees and Drew Pickering continue to keep Jonata near the top of the pyramid in Santa Barbara County. Pulling all from their estate vineyard in Ballard Canyon, which is mostly sandy soils, they make a wealth of wines, yet the quality is spectacular across the board. In general, the wines are a touch more polished and approachable today than in the past (which I think is a good thing), and while they’ll still benefit from bottle age, they offer plenty of pleasure in their youth.

The 2020 Todos, as the name says, is Jonata's red blend. Although an entry-level offering, Todos punches above its weight. Dark cherry, chocolate, new leather, licorice, spice and scorched earth all run through this Syrah-based blend. I loved it. - By Antonio Galloni on June 2022
Matt Dees and his team at Jonata presented a stellar set of wines this year. The range has been pretty much the same since the beginning. The Sangre de Jonata is mostly Syrah, while Fenix, Alma de Jonata and Desafio de Jonata are Bordeaux blends based on Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The biggest change is with the Bordeaux wines, which were once true blends, but in 2020, they are heavily focused on single varieties. Whether that is attributable to a maturation of the vineyards or the latest evolution of thinking here, or some of both, the reality is that the 2020s are incredibly exciting, viscerally thrilling wines on a level I have rarely seen in Santa Barbara.
57% syrah, 24% cabernet sauvignon, 10% petite sirah, 6% cabernet franc, 3% misc. others (white and red)
14.5% Alc
18% new French oak, 82% neutral French oak
"Boysenberry and cacao nibs. A medium rare steak. Wonderful interplay between sweet and savory. Big fruit and bold personality. Blueberry, clove and bacon. Well-built Todos blend thanks to ample sunshine during the growing season and harvest. It is not a shy Todos, but the best secret of this wine is that it stays in balance thanks to the length of the structure and the Ballard Canyon acidity. The tannins are so tender and mouth coating, like a fine powder. Along the journey, it crosses from black to red and then from blue to green. A fascinating cascade of flavors, aromas and most importantly, textures. A true and inviting conversation between syrah, cabernet sauvignon and a few friends." Matt Dees, Winemaker
